  • DAY 1 - We pick you up by private van in front of the international arrivals building between 12-1 PM. We drive you to the ferry. We take a 20-30 minute ferry ride to the island. Taxis will deliver you to your hotel. The rest of the day is yours to prep cameras and explore the island.
  • DAY 2 - 5 (4 days) – We eat a light continental breakfast. After, we will head out to the whale shark grounds, spend the rest of the day swimming with the sharks and possibly manta rays.
  • DAY 6 – Taxis will pick you up in the morning and take you to the ferry. Upon arriving back to Cancun, our driver will drop you off in front of the Cancun International departure building for your return flights home. We recommend making your return flights after 12 noon.

We are headed to the plankton rich waters that surround Isla Mujeres, Mexico for the annual whale shark migration. Every year hundreds of whale sharks travel thousands of miles to their summer feeding grounds off the Yucatan Peninsula, forming the largest aggregation of whale sharks in the World. The waters are thick with plankton and fish eggs, from several different fish species (spawnings) that happen during the full moon. Between 200 to 500 whale sharks arrive each season, feeding together, creating one of the most incredible sights you will ever witness. We have been traveling here, every summer since 2005 and each year the magic of this place just keeps surprising us.

Please note that these are snorkel encounters only.

Water Temperature; 77 - 82 F ( 24 - 26 C )
Land Temperature; 80 - 95 F ( 25 - 33 C )

There is also a strong possibility that you will see and swim with manta rays. Every year we have manta rays join the whale sharks at these feeding events. They are few and far between most of the time, but they are always out there. However, some years are better than others. In 2013, we had over 500 plus manta rays feeding along side the 300 plus whale sharks. It was one of the most amazing natural feeding frenzies we have ever witnessed. A bonus treat is when the mantas are breaching. They always breach in twos. So if you missed the first one, keep an eye out, because they may possibly breach again. It is also possible to see mobula rays, golden rays, dolphins and sailfish on these trips.

During our time here on Isla Mujeres, our hotel of choice is Na Balam. This beach front hotel is easily the most most beautiful on the island. In the mornings, we will have our breakfast at the hotel restaurant and after we are done, we pick up our gear, walk out in the water. where our boats are waiting to take us out to find the whale sharks. It is walking distance from the restaurant area and for those of you that may want a little more, they do offer yoga classes. The views of the sunsets here are the best on the island.
