Pelagic Sea-fari Expedition
We had a really good trip this year for our Pelagic safari off Baja Mexico. It was a bit tough for marlins hunting bait balls; however, the wildlife we encountered this season was extraordinary. We encountered humpback whales, massive schools of mobile rays, and super pods of common dolphins. It was a great time out at sea.

The water was a bit warm, possibly too warm for striped marlin. But by the end of our two weeks there, the water started cooling off, and we then began seeing more bait balls out there.

With these types of trips, you can not get fixated on wanting to see just one thing. Yes, the striped marlin is the star of the show, but if you join a trip like this, you need to be a full-on wildlife enthusiast, excited about seeing everything the ocean has to offer; sea turtles, whales, dolphins, etc. If you are not and just want the marlin bait balls, then weeks like this will frustrate you. But if you embrace it all, then a week like this is exciting as hell. We had miles of mobula rays. They were popcorning all over the place, putting on one hell of a show.

We had flirting humpback whales rolling and dancing for us as they slowly swam back and forth, just enjoying themselves. Super pods of dolphins were charging around everywhere, porposing as they all swam. Hundreds of olive ridley sea turtles were sunning themselves on the ocean surface, scattered all over the place; they were easy to find. We found a dead dolphin carcass, with schooling dorados underneath it. And we did find bait balls with marlin and sea lions on it. Not as many as we usually do, but we did find them and had some excellent encounters with them. We spent two hours with one baitball, which was a lot of fun.

The place is amazing. It was a great time to be out on the ocean. SO here is a photo album from the trip with a few comments about the images I am sharing—some moments and memories. I hope you enjoy it.
